Listening to Horizons, the ambient debut by Jake Kmiecik, settles you into a languid daydream. It is midi-soaked and full of color, and speaks of sun in your eyes and headlights a little too bright. Kmiecik is the drummer of Bonny Doon, but there isn’t much to be found in the way of rhythm. There are hints that pop repeatedly throughout the record: ghost notes and punctuations - disruptive yet additive to the illustration. Horizons is a welcome mirage. It is a soundtrack that carries us along an infinite landscape, allowing us to fade in and out of our extant claustrophobia.
